HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY
Issued and signed by Robert Ikwue, Director | Policy v1.0 | Date of issue: 15 May 2026
1.0 Policy Statement
4 Dimension Kitchens & Bathrooms (a trading name of Quintrix UK Limited, Co. Reg 10486930) is committed to safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of all its employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by its work activities.
The Company recognises and accepts its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), and all other applicable health and safety legislation.
It is the policy of the Company to:
- Provide and maintain safe systems of work, plant, equipment and a safe working environment on every project.
- Identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate controls before any work commences.
- Provide adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to all operatives and engaged subcontractors.
- Consult with employees and subcontractors on health and safety matters affecting their work.
- Review this policy annually or when circumstances or legislation change, whichever is sooner.
Overall responsibility for health and safety within 4DKB rests with the Director.
2.0 Organisation & Responsibilities
Director (Robert Ikwue):
- Overall responsibility for the implementation of this Health & Safety Policy.
- Ensures sufficient resources are allocated to meet health and safety obligations.
- Reviews risk assessments and method statements before works commence.
- Reviews accident and near-miss reports and takes corrective action.
- Acts as the principal point of contact for clients, loss adjusters and the HSE where required.
Site Operatives & Engaged Subcontractors:
- Comply with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy, site rules, risk assessments and method statements.
- Use the personal protective equipment (PPE) provided, and report any defects in equipment or PPE.
- Report any hazards, incidents, near-misses or accidents to the Director without delay.
- Hold the appropriate CSCS card or trade qualification for the work being undertaken.
- Hold their own valid public liability insurance where engaged as self-employed subcontractors.
Clients:
- Provide safe and reasonable access to the work area during agreed working hours.
- Disclose any known asbestos-containing materials, electrical defects, structural concerns or other site-specific hazards prior to works commencing.
- Keep children, pets and unauthorised persons clear of the work area while works are in progress.
3.0 General Arrangements
3.1 Risk Assessment & Method Statements
Before each project, a site-specific risk assessment is carried out covering all foreseeable hazards (access, working at height, manual handling, hazardous substances, electrical, dust, noise, slips/trips, fire). A method statement is prepared where the work is complex or higher-risk. Both documents are reviewed with operatives before works commence and remain on site for the duration of the works.
3.2 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE is provided free of charge to all 4DKB operatives and is mandatory for engaged subcontractors. Standard site PPE includes safety footwear, hi-visibility vest, hard hat, safety eyewear, work gloves, and FFP3 dust masks where required. Specialist PPE (e.g., RPE for plastering or tile-cutting dust, HAVS protection for vibration work, hearing protection above 80 dB(A)) is provided as risk assessments require.
3.3 Training & Competence
All operatives carrying out work for 4DKB hold appropriate competence for their trade. Subcontractors are required to provide proof of trade qualification and CSCS card on engagement. Asbestos awareness, manual handling and working at height refresher training is undertaken as required.
3.4 Welfare Facilities
On occupied domestic projects, welfare arrangements are agreed with the client at the start of works (typically use of an agreed bathroom and access to drinking water). On unoccupied or larger projects, dedicated welfare facilities are provided.
3.5 First Aid & Emergency
A fully stocked first aid kit is carried on every project. The nearest A&E and out-of-hours pharmacy are identified at project start. All operatives carry mobile phones for emergency contact. Any incident requiring medical attention is reported to the Director within 24 hours and entered into the accident record.
3.6 Reporting of Incidents, Accidents & Near-Misses
All incidents, accidents and near-misses are recorded internally. Any incident reportable under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013) is reported to the HSE within the required timescales. The client is notified the same day of any incident affecting the project.
3.7 Tools, Equipment & Plant
All electrical tools and equipment used by 4DKB are PAT-tested annually and visually checked before each use. Defective equipment is removed from service immediately. Battery-powered tools are used in preference where practical to reduce trailing-cable risks. Ladders and access equipment are inspected before use.
4.0 Specific Hazards & Controls
4.1 Working at Height
Work at height is avoided where possible (Working at Height Regulations 2005). Where unavoidable, suitable access equipment is used (step platforms, podium steps, scaffold towers as appropriate) with fall protection where required. Stepladders are only used for short-duration, low-risk tasks and are inspected before use.
4.2 Manual Handling
Manual handling is assessed and controlled in line with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Heavy or awkward materials (plasterboard, sanitaryware, bath units) are handled by two operatives. Mechanical aids (sack barrows, board carriers) are used where practical.
4.3 Hazardous Substances (COSHH)
Substances hazardous to health (plasters, paints, solvents, adhesives, sealants) are managed under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). Safety data sheets are held for all such substances. Appropriate RPE, gloves and ventilation are used in line with manufacturers’ instructions.
4.4 Electrical Safety
All electrical work is carried out by a competent, qualified electrician (NICEIC, NAPIT or equivalent). Existing electrical circuits are isolated before any work commences in their vicinity. Live testing is only carried out where unavoidable and with appropriate equipment and procedures.
4.5 Asbestos Awareness
4DKB operatives are aware of the risks of asbestos in pre-2000 properties. Before works commence in any pre-2000 property, a visual inspection is carried out and the client is asked to confirm any known asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). If suspected ACMs are identified during works, work in the affected area stops immediately and a licensed asbestos surveyor is engaged before works resume.
4.6 Dust Control
Dust is controlled at source using on-tool extraction where practical, water suppression for tile-cutting where appropriate, and sealed waste bags. FFP3 RPE is provided for high-dust tasks (plaster sanding, tile cutting, plasterboard cutting). Affected rooms are sealed with polythene barriers during higher-dust operations.
4.7 Fire Safety
Hot works (soldering, blowtorch use) are minimised and where unavoidable are subject to a hot work permit, with a suitable fire extinguisher on hand and a 30-minute post-work fire watch. Combustible waste is removed daily. Smoking is not permitted on site.
4.8 Slips, Trips & Falls
Work areas are kept clear and tidy throughout the working day. Trailing cables are routed safely. Spills are cleared immediately. Walkways are kept unobstructed for client and family movement around the property.
5.0 Subcontractor Management
All subcontractors engaged by 4DKB are required, before commencement of any works on site, to provide:
- Evidence of public liability insurance to a minimum of £2 million.
- Trade competence evidence (CSCS card, NICEIC/Gas Safe registration, or equivalent as applicable to the trade).
- Acknowledgement that they have read and will comply with this Health & Safety Policy and the site-specific risk assessment.
Subcontractors are responsible for the safe execution of their own works and for the supply of their own trade-specific PPE and equipment.
6.0 Policy Review
This Policy is reviewed annually, or sooner if:
- There is a significant change in the Company’s operations, structure or scale.
- A significant accident, near-miss or HSE intervention has occurred.
- Relevant legislation, ACOP or HSE guidance has changed.
The next scheduled review of this Policy is 15 May 2027.
